Lazy Eight Radio Control Club

News Release

The Lazy Eight Radio Control Model Airplane Club will hold it 21st Annual Model Airplane Air Show on Saturday and Sunday August 18 and 19 2007, at the clubs flying site located on Fulton County Highway 131, Johnstown, N.Y. (Behind Rogers Family Orchard).  Take Route 29 West of Johnstown and follow the signs 1 mile outside the city limits at the junction of County Highway 131.

The air show is open to the public from 9AM to 4PM both days.  There is a suggested donation of $3.00 per person with children under 12 admitted free. All gate proceeds from this event will benefit the James A. Brennan Humane Society. Parking is Free.

The event, which is sanctioned by the Academy of Model Aeronautics and the International Miniature Aircraft Association, will feature a large selection of giant sized model airplanes flown by radio control.  The air show is a free style non-competitive event, which allows the pilots the freedom to duplicate the flying characteristics, and aerobatic maneuvers of the full size prototypes that these models are fashioned after without restrictions.

A large contingent of model enthusiasts from throughout New York and the surrounding states will display and fly their World War I, World War II and civilian airplanes through aerobatic exhibitions by means of remote radio control.  In the past the air show featured several large war birds including the famous P-51 Mustang, the AT-6 Texan, the F4U Corsair and the P-47 Thunderbolt just to mention a few.  All of these model airplanes are expected to return along with several twin-engine powered models.  Also expected to return for this years show will be a number of high performance air show type aerobatic airplanes and many other vintage and modern day airplane. These large size models, all painstakingly built by their pilots, have wingspans up to twelve feet, weigh up to fifty-five pounds and are powered by large two cycle and 4-cycle engines similar to the engines used in large chain saws.

Both days promise to be exciting and fun for spectators of all ages as these large model airplanes entertain you.  Come out and enjoy a great day of flying demonstrations and at the same time support the James A. Brennan Humane Society.  Time has been set aside both days for an up close look and photo secession of the models with pilots available to answer questions.

It is urged that spectators bring their lawn chairs and their camera for a memorable and exciting day of fun.  Refreshments, sanitary facilities and handicap parking is available.  For more information contact Ron Chizek at 762-3330 or go to www.lazyeightrcclub.org.
